Madrid’s population is approximately 2,400 (2009 U.S. census estimate of 2,360). Most residents live in owner-occupied housing, although rental housing is available as well. Madrid has a higher-than-average proportion of residents over 65 due to the presence of the Madrid Home for the Aging, but it also has a higher-than-average proportion of residents under 18 and a kindergarten through 12th grade school system (see Madrid Schools).

Existing commercial buildings are available in downtown Madrid as well as other locations around town. Madrid also provides tax incentives for certain types of development.
